Longfellow Elementary - Update

Built in 1905, Longfellow is one of Boise’s most historic elementary schools. With multiple portable classrooms and a small, combined gymnasium and cafeteria Longfellow ranked in the bottom 10 on all three major 2016 Facilities Audit categories (Utilization, Educational Adequacy and the Facilities Condition Index).

By providing dedicated, individual space to physical education, performing arts and the cafeteria, Longfellow will be better able to accommodate multiple events at one time and meet modern education standards.
October 19, 2021 Update: Kreizenbeck Constuctors will manage the LKV Architects designed project, which will add a new addition to the current site of the existing Longfellow Elementary School. Demolition of the old gymnasium/cafeteria addition is complete. Construction of the new addition to the existing school will begin as soon as contracts are in place. Estimated completion of the new school addition is the last half of 2022.

Soon, construction of the new addition to Longfellow Elementary School (pictured) is expected to begin.
This past summer, we’ve prepped our school site for the work to start, including removal of all portable classrooms, and the demolition of the old gymnasium/cafeteria & kitchen.
Crews have been doing the utility work to prepare the site for the construction phase. We received  the building permit from the City of Boise on October 12th. With permit in hand, construction will now be in full swing. The project has been expanded to not only include new physical education and performing arts spaces, but also new classrooms, as well as a renovation of the existing school.
When finished, this project will provide our students & community with:

  • State-of-the art classrooms that meet modern education standards
  • New gym, cafeteria, office and main entrance (all ADA compliant)
  • Modern and updated safety features, including fire sprinklers and fire safety features, and new energy efficient windows, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems

We are on track for completion of this project during the last half of 2022.
